This is a simple drill to grove your touch and technique on your volley drops. Here Nick Matthew and Daryl Selby are doing it on the backhand though of course you could do it on the forehand too. They are using it as part of a warm-up for matches later in the day.
One player feeds for the other to hit a straight drop volley. You can see the feed is hit quite hard but you can vary this for the level of player. Also notice the variation in these feeds to help them practice different types of volley. When it is done quickly this drill is good for developing fast hands and reactions.
As you can see it is not a complicated practice! One player feeds from the front for the other to hit volley drops from the short line. Their goal is to keep the ball low, short and tight to the side wall.
