Ali Walker (wearing the headband) wants a let here.Adrian Grant is blocking his path to the ball so he can’t get through to it and there is clear interference.
However, the referee decides that HAD Adrian not been in the way, Ali would not have reached the ball anyway. Therefore he gives a no let decision.
The referees line of thinking would be
1 Did interference occur ?  Yes, so this could be a let or stroke situation
2. Could the obstructed player have reached the ball and made a good return ? And was he making every effort to do so ?

In this case it was decided that he couldn’t, or perhaps that he wasn’t making every effort either.  This leads us to no let.

In summary, if the incoming player couldn't have reached the ball, or doesn’t make every effort to get to the ball, he is not entitled to a let regardless of whether there was interference ie. That his opponent was in his way.
