This solo exercise will allow you to become more comfortable hitting the ball off the back foot from a 3/4 length ball. The idea is to continually hit the ball off the back foot so that it bounces behind the back of the service box every time.
Hit the ball with less pace to start with to give yourself time to adjust your positioning to the bounce of the ball. When the ball bounces too deep behind the box you will have insufficient space to hit the ball off the top of the bounce, even when using your back foot. You will then have to control the ball off the half volley or it will difficult to maintain the exercise.
Once you feel you can control the ball well enough your new goal should be to beat your personal high score of consecutive shots. If you hit one outside the target, your score goes back to zero. Try drawing a chalk line half way between the service box back line and the back wall. Aim to bounce the ball just in this area and this will help you get a new high score!
