I think the backhand volley drop is probably one of the most important shots in the game, mainly because it is an attacking shot. You are looking to hit a good length and then half the time after hitting this good length you will be given an opportunity to play a backhand volley drop.

Firstly is to recognise when you have a good opportunity of playing this shot. So being aware after hitting a good length that you've got the time to play a backhand volley drop is important.

You want to have a solid base so you can execute the shot properly. Then it is simple technique issues which are valid for every shot really in squash. For example getting your weight through the ball.

Hitting a crisp margin for error shot; you don't want to be looking to hit it half and inch above the tin but you want to be looking to work your opponent into the front of the court, generally at pace so that you are taking time away from your opponent.

Also you don't necessarily want to be looking to hit the nick all of the time; you want to hit front wall and then into the side wall so that the opponent doesn't really have anything to work off the shot and then you can hopefully look for an opportunity after that to win the rally!.
