This routine is made up of three shots: boast, lob (cross-court) then volley (straight) played in this sequence. It is a great exercise to work on each of these specific shots together with your movement about the court.
Hitting a low 2 wall boast will move your practice partner quickly to the front and put them under pressure to lift the ball with quality. Getting 'float' on your lob will give you time to recover back to the 'T' zone. On your volleys you should be trying to defending the high wide lobs and attack the looser ones.
Whilst practicing just re-start the play with the next shot in sequence where the routine broke down. As you become more comfortable with this routine why not play against your partner for points. Always start the rally with a boast!
Try out some progressions based on this boast, lob, volley theme.
Boast, xc lob, xc volley. This variation is great for twisting your opponent quickly as they are heading back to the 'T' from the lob. If the ball is right try delaying your volley until their body weight is committed for the straight volley. You may want to defend a great lob with a high cross-court volley lob!
Boast xc lob st or xc volley. This variation works on your decision making on where the best opening is when presented with a volley opportunity from the lob.
