Here is a quick clip about the differences in body orientation from straight drive to cross-court drive. This is a classic standard position for your straight drive...get right round to the side of the ball, chest facing the side wall and ball opposite my left knee for a right-hander. That's going to help me keep the ball nice and straight down the forehand wall.

To play cross-court if I just orientate myself around this way so I am turning slightly towards the front corner. Now when I strike the ball it is going to give me a nice angle onto the front wall which will take it to the appropriate area in the backhand back corner.

So the major difference is coming from here to just taking the ball on that slight angle. You will notice that the ball is slightly further in front of me.

We can use this theory to help us put some disguise on our shot. If we get round in a straight drive position here but actually swing a bit earlier and strike the ball a little bit early, there. I have now got the angle to take it cross-court but my  body position and my orientation looks like I am going to hit it straight. It is a little bit harder to get my accuracy over here but it is harder for my opponent to read as well.
