Simon Parke may be approaching forty, but his ball striking is still world class. Just listen to the noise his shots make on the strings. This is the sound of the strings moving across each other as the ball strikes them, and it does so because of the cut or slice that Simon often uses when he hits the ball. It is this that gives him such control of a full range of shots.

When I‘m coaching I often say “Try to make the sound of a can of fizzy drink opening”, and you can clearly imagine that with the noise Simon’s shots make.

If you can make this noise consistently with your strings, you are more than halfway to having the ball at your full control.
