This is a much underused shot. Once your opponent has taken you into the front, particularly if they have played short from the back, then it is a great opportunity to reverse the roles and to put them under some real pressure with a tight straight drop.
Mike Way calls it making them fetch their own shot. By playing this shot you are preventing your opponent feeling comfortable going short. Key points to notice are the low racket preparation, and you must get the ball tight to the side wall. By playing it, you will force them to come forward to cover any short shots of their own, which also gives you the opportunity to push it past them deep.
