I use this exercise in my warm up, usually near the end when I am fully warm as it is a plyometric exercise. I do it in a plyometric circuit in regular training but I have adapted it for my warm up!
It is four explosive jumps forward and on the last jump it is a sprint forward. It is working on the rebounding off the floor which is important in squash and the final bit is the quick sprint, getting that first step movement towards the ball as fast as possible.
I don't have have hurdles with me all the time but it is normally done over hurdles. A short amount of contact time with the ground is probably the most important thing more so than height just to develop that explosive reaction off the floor. Once you land it is the quickness of pushing off the floor to get in the air again and once you land for that last one it is the quickness of that first step to get out forward that is key.
