This is a massively important tip for virtually all your squash shots, and the top players do it so well.

The longer your racket goes directly through the path you would like the ball to travel on, the more chance you have of it going there. Therefore it follows that if we can extend our swing through this line, that it will help our accuracy.

Focus on the desired direction on the ball, and let your racket follow it. This works for forehand and backhand, and for all your different shots.

On the forehand, a slight opening of your shoulders will allow this extension to take place. On the backhand you’ll need to turn on the backswing, and control the rotation on the follow through, to finish facing the sidewall.

On both sides it might help to think about getting the racket back and in line, rather than up too high, and around your neck.

Your racket is held by your hand, which eventually attaches to your shoulder, so some circular motion around your body is inevitable, but we can certainly minimise it by extending through.

Do this well, and you’ll hit good width.
