There are lots of different ways of hitting a straight drive. You can see all different techniques coming from all different parts of the world. However they all have one thing in common. When you strike the ball it's chest facing the side wall.

One thing we can do to get the chest facing the side wall consistently is to have our front foot forward on each side of the court. So this means on this side of the court, regardless of whether you are a left or right-hander, our front foot which is the one closest to the front wall (it'll be my left) . That promotes my chest towards the side wall and it is going to help me control the ball straight. it puts me in a nice hitting position.

So my front foot on this side of the court, and by front foot I mean the one closest to the front wall, is going to be my right foot. As you can see immediately putting my right foot forward here promotes my chest facing the side wall. This will help me get the ball straight, whether I'm right handed or left handed...I'm in a nice position.

You can use this little guide all the way up and down the court. So at the back of the court my front foot over this side is still my right one which puts me in a nice position, and as come forward the same thing still holds. Immediately you can see if i try to put my back foot forward, which on this side is the left foot it turns my chest towards the front wall. It is actually quite awkward to get into a nice position to hit this ball (straight).

As you improve you will find it beneficial to use both feet on either side. There won't be a consistent pattern for each individual shot. However as you are learning it simplifies it. It makes it nice and easy to have your front foot forward on either side of the court.
