Whenever you hit a squash shot, you really need to think about what you are trying to do to your opponent, apnd when you hit a drive or a length to the back of the court it's no different.
So when we hit a straight drive we are trying to put our opponent in the back corner and we are trying to make it difficult for them by putting the ball close the side wall and close to the back wall.
If you are in good position and you know you can control the ball well, we can be aiming to get the ball bouncing just beyond the back of the service box so it's coming up and dying right in the back corner.
If we are not in quite such good position and we are not quite so confident about the control of the ball, we might need to aim a bit deeper, just to make sure we get the ball all the way to the back.
You see the thing is if we aim for here, and we make a mistake and it's a bit short, this really isn't so good, but if we aim here we get a bit short, it's not too much of a problem hitting here.
The key thing for you to take onto court, is when you hit a drive, that it has a purpose.
When you are playing your shot, you make sure you are aiming for a specific place and that you make sure you are going to get the ball deep - it's safety first and get the ball deep. If you know you are going to get it deep with accuracy we can afford to be a bit more aggressive and aim a little bit shorter.
