What does it work on? Straight Drives

Level: Beginner

Duration: 50 minutes

Number of players: 4 per court

Physical Intensity: Low/medium

Goals and Guidelines

  • To introduce drives, the most important shot.
  • Feeding should be gentle, and can be done by hand or racket feed.
  • The session should progress in intensity, with gradually more pressure applied to the players.
  • Make sure players are aware of safety, especially if you are working four on a court.

Description

  1. Player A to feed a short straight feed from behind the forehand service box for player B to straight drive.  Reverse roles.
  2. Repeat exercise on the back hand side.
  3. 2 feeders as above with 2 separate balls feed for 1 driver who drives alternately forehand and backhand. The fourth player is the clock who runs  25 court widths at the back, and then shouts "Stop!"
  4. Conditioned game:
Normal squash with a bonus point for a winning drive bouncing beyond the back of the service box and inside the width of the service box. (Note: This game has only 2 players on court at any one time.)
