Let’s analyse how Natalie Grainger sets Laura Lengthorn-Massaro up for this volley drop trap.
So far Grainger’s had balls in this area many times, and she’s played volley cross-court, volley drop or volley length each time.
Lengthorn is most worried about a good short straight volley drop, and so makes moves to cover this each time.
Having done this all game, Grainger chooses game ball to play her volley boast. Although it’s a fantastic shot in it’s own right, much of the credit must go to the threat of the volley drop, which she’s created through playing it well previously.
The glory must go to the volley boast, but a good assist by the volley drop!
