There are going to be times when your opponent gets in your way, but are they in your way enough for the decision to be a stroke?
If you can hit the ball safely and with reasonable quality, and your opponent is out of position, then why not play it? By asking for a let you are leaving the rally outcome in the hands of the Referee! If their decision is a let, the rally restarts, the equilibrium restored.... and you have lost your positional advantage!
This is not to say you should try to play everything, particularly the definite strokes... the rules are there for safety and fair play.
Be honest with yourself rather than hopeful! If it is a grey area decision and you have the upper hand in the rally, keep the rally outcome in your racket hand. Make every effort to play the 'grey area' balls and you will be rewarded on court more often than not!
