What does it work?    Volleys under pressure, Aerobic Endurance

Level: Advanced

Duration: 50mins - 1 hr

Number of players:

Physical Intensity: High

Goals and guidelines.

  • This session is to help people get used to the feeling and intensity of pushing forward to try to cut the ball off early.
  • It should be hard aerobically, and should be challenging technically, so all in all it will test you to the limit!
  • One player works for about 25 minutes, and then players reverse roles with the second player working hard.
  • The worker should try to get as far up to the T as possible, taking every ball as early as possible. A good ready position is crucial.
  • As always, pay attention to the quality of your shot, and the length you are hitting.

Description

1.    Player A feeds 25 balls for B to back of court straight or x-court. Player B to take ball as early as possible (hopefully volley) STRAIGHT to back of court.

Note: A’s job here is to challenge B with his feeds. They should be possible for B to volley, but not on a plate for him/her. Some of A’s feeds should bring B into the back of the court also.

2.    Player B does a 2 point ghost as directed by A for 30secs. (A picks 2 points on the court for B to ghost to repeatedly).

3.    1 min rest (or active recovery).

4.    Repeat 1-3 for 8 sets. (can vary last couple of sets if required eg player A can also feed into the front for B to hit straight length.

5.    Swap roles - player B to feed same routine for A.
