Here we have a classic right and left hander rally.
Ali Walker , the right hander is going to try to play as much of the rally as he can on Adrian Grant's back hand, which he believes is Adrian’s weaker side.
Adrian will try to resist this of course, by trying to play to Ali’s backhand. This often results in a lot of cross courts while both players spar and try to pin their opponent on the back hand.
Now let’s focus on Ali, he hits almost every ball to the backhand of Adrian.
In an attempt to break this hold Adrian hits cross court to Ali’s backhand, but it’s not wide enough on this occasion.
Adrian's problems are compounded, in that he is starting to always expect another ball to his back hand, like all the previous ones, but the element of surprise is now Ali’s. Ali seizes his opportunity to put the loose cross court away, finally playing a ball to Adrian's forehand for a great winner.
So as a right hander playing against a left hander, your strategy should be to hit largely to your opponents backhand, and look to pounce on any loose attempt to pull the ball back to your backhand. And don't forget your opponent will be trying to do exactly the same!
