Ghosting is essentially squash movement without the ball. It is an excellent exercise for grooving your court movement as you don't have the pressure of hitting a ball to target.
When you start to learn to ghost do so to one corner. Move slowly at first so that you can think about the correct footwork to and from the imaginary hitting point. Try to take a slight arc to the hitting point and then recover directly back to the T. If you find it difficult to imagine the ball, place an object on the floor to use as a guide for your hitting position.
Play six 'shots' in each movement set ensuring you have a full recovery between sets. Only increase the pace of your movement as you get used to the footwork.
Why not create a sequence of six shots to play. For example: Straight Drive, Straight Drop, Crosscourt Drive, Crosscourt Lob, Straight Drive, Crosscourt Drive
Work on all four corners individually before you move on to the next stage of linking them together. Once you become comfortable with each movement shift your concentration to one of the following:
As you move to the ball prepare your body and racket in readiness to strike.
Hit a proper shot as this will help you train your body to control the forces of your swing
Remember to watch the 'invisible ball' to where you have hit it as you recover to the 'T'
