If you look back we have already done a clip on weight transfer comparing it to a wedge or triangle shape. Staying tall here and then coming into a point at the end of your swing. If you look what I have done here I have started a good distance away from the ball. We need this space, so that we can step in, transfer our weight into the shot,
As soon as I get to close, what is going to happen when I play is that I'm going to pull off the shot to give me room to get my racket in and I am also going to become upright. As I come off my weight is going the wrong way and I'm not going to get my weight coming through the shot.
So the moral of the story is you need the space in order to help you transfer weight into the shot.
