To play a ball coming across the court and straighten it down the wall it is often really useful to close our racket face through the hitting zone in order to help us get the ball straight. This it because it helps us extend through the line!

If I maintain an open wrist it is going to pull my racket into the middle of the court. If I close my wrist as I strike there it allows me to extend my racket through the line I want the ball to go on. As you can see my wrist is working quite hard to close the racket face.

This is particularly useful if you are trying to hit a length or a kill! Closing the racket face there gives you a bit more omph and will help you get the ball to the back of the court with a little bit more penetration. If you are playing the drop you might choose to keep the racket face a little bit more open which will give you that little bit more control.
