Hi I'm Chris Ryder, PSA no.35 and I'm going to talk to you about the backhand drop shot from the back of the court.

Ok, the most important thing with the drop from the back is that it should look like a drive. So you have to do it as much as you can to look the same. Accelerate through the ball, move forward as you play it, and aim for your target low on the front wall. You are not going for a soft shot, you are going for a pacey flat shot, same as your drive.

The biggest mistake that people make when they play this shot is that they try to draw their opponent too far into the front of the court, by playing a loopy shot that bounces and goes for the nick. When I try and play this shot I try and play it quite fast: into the front wall, hit the floor and then into the side wall. So when my opponent is playing it this is where they are playing it, tight to the side wall.
