This is a variation of the traditional drop shot that I use quite often in a game. I call it my 'dink drop'. It is a useful weapon, especially off a boast, when you try to get onto the ball as quickly as possible to hit it early as you can in front of the leading leg and dink the ball into the front.

It is good to practice this shot off both the left and right leg because in a game you are not quite sure which leg will first get to the ball, and this shot is all about taking the ball as early as possible.

Once you become really good at this shot you can bring some variation in with a flicked drive or a flick lob. This shot is particularly useful off boasts that leave you far up the court, particularly two wall boasts which you can try and get on it as quickly a s possible.

It can also be used as a more defensive shot when your opponent has played a straight drop in. You will want to leave the ball as far up the court as possible and drag your opponent as far as you can to the front wall!

Some key coaching points to remember are firstly it is a very short swing. Your racket is in front of you and dabs the ball into the front. Secondly you need to get very low to the ball as you will most likely be under pressure which will help you to control your core and lunge before coming back out.

Tactically once you have played a couple of the dink drop shots in your opponent will start to read them and come rushing forward to cover. This is when the lob and the little flicks can really hurt them.
