Problems clearing your service return, which is straight and deep, often start with poor positioning and technique for the actual return.

You should start here, about 1 racket length away from the corner of the box. This will allow you to volley at the side of the ball, and now 1 step backwards, and you will clear the corner.

Problems are caused by approaching the ball from behind, or getting too far behind the ball for your volley.

Now when you step back, you are still in or around the corner, so in all likelihood you’ll be getting in the way when you play that good length.

Going back to what you should be doing, if you start in the correct position, and volley at the side of body, roughly opposite to your playing shoulder, clearance will be much easier.
