This angle here is what we call an open racket face. It is going to help us lift the ball up and take it above the tin. It is going to be useful for virtually all of your shots...And this is 'open' on the backhand side.
Here I have the racket face closed. It is more difficult to control the ball and it is definitly a lot harder to get the ball up into the air and high getting it to the back of the court.
